SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

NGAM Scholarship Program
• National Guard Association of Maryland (NGAM) Scholarship
Program
• Scholarships available to full-time and part-time students
• Scholarship grants are available to Guard members and their
family members
• Complete application and submit by 2Mar

MDARNG ROTC Scholarship

• Pays 100% of tuition and applicable fees up to $20,000
• $600 annual book allowance
• $350 monthly stipend
• Guarantees cadet will be commissioned into the MDARNG
• Requires participation in the Simultaneous Membership
Program (SMP)
ROTC Scholarship Requirements
• U.S. Citizen
• Minimum GPA 2.5
• Physically and medically qualified
• Good moral character
• Under 31 years old at commissioning
• Pass a Department of Defense MERB Physical
• Pass an Army Physical Fitness Test
ROTC Scholarship Deadlines
• Contact the ROTC Battalion or the Education Services Office
for an application
• Application deadline: 1 February.
• Soldiers/Students must appear before a Scholarship Board on 3
March.
• The Adjutant General (TAG) will select the six scholarship
winners NLT 15
April. Winners will be officially notified on or after 1 May.

Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)

The Benefit: Up to $20,000
– For existing student loans at the time of enlistment /
reenlistment
How to Qualify
- Enlist for a high priority unit (See List/ Recruiter)
- Any Military Occupational Specialty in a high
priority unit
- Enlist for a 6 X 2 or 8 X 0 contract period
- Must have existing loans
- Can extend for benefit in order to have 6 yrs remaining

State Tuition Assistance(STA)

STA reimburses up to 50% of tuition and related fees with a
grade of “C”
or better and a minimum 2 year military obligation from the
course start
date.
• Soldier not eligible for STA if they are eligible for tuition/fees
and cost
reimbursement from any other source
• Soldier must submit grades to the Education Office within 45
days to
receive payment
• Payment is mailed directly to the soldier (Funding Cap: $5000
per FY)
• Priority is junior enlisted (E1 –E6)

STA Process

• Soldier must sign STA form (MD Form 5-6)
• Must submit copy of registration and STA to education office
within the
first 45 days of course start date
• Submit grades within 45 days of the end of the semester.
• Can only be used for enrollment in an undergraduate program
at a “Partner
College”.
• NOTE: Check gets mailed to soldier home (make sure the
address is correct on the form)

State Tuition Waiver (STW)

• “Up Front” waives 25-50% tuition at 2 year and 4 year State
Higher
Education institutions and Washington and Loyola College
• STW is for undergraduate and Graduate Programs (check
w/school)
• An agreement between MD National Guard and the State
Supported
College
• Company Commander or ESO approves
• Guard member takes form directly to the college

STW Process

• State Tuition Waiver letter must be signed by the Commander
or generated
by the ESO
• The guard member takes the letter to the college at the time
payment is
due and the college will waive 25-50% of the tuition only
(Military photo
ID is required)
• Most 4 year colleges waive 50% up to 6 credits per semester
• Can be used for undergraduate programs
•Available to Guard members upon enlistment

Veteran’s Administration Work Study Program

The VAfunds a work-study program with the Maryland National
Guard to assist students in learning while working.
Guardmember’s can work at a unit or any goverment agency
Eligibility:
1. All students registered for at least nine credits using MGIB
2. Must be a member of the Maryland National Guard
Benefits:
1. Tax Free Income at minimum wage rate (25 Hours/week).
2. Applications are available in the Education Office
